It’s time to start breaking out the sweatshirts! Fall is here and the N.C. mountains couldn’t be more beautiful. I highly recommend driving U.S. 321 north from Lenoir to Boone and taking the parkway to see all the beautiful colors of the changing leaves.
Boy, did I have a busy week last week. Made it past phase 2 for the N.C. game warden hiring process. Keeping my fingers crossed that I ace my board review and swimming test! Got some cool pictures of insects(I know I’m a big nerd) that I’ll post below. I am not getting to update our page as often as I’d like, but hang in there, we are finishing up categorizing all of our media from the summer.
Israel and I are preparing out .50 cal. Muzzeladers for opening day in Granville County here soon. All we have left to do is sight our guns in and test which loads will give us the best results. Israel has never really disassembled or cleaned a gun so this has been a good learning experience. I actually think we have a good chance of bagging a few deer this year during muzzloading season. Gun season should be fun too, we will be using the FNAR .308 and Tikka .300 Win. Mag coupled with the GoPro.
Avery has shown interest in hunting so I’m currently on the prowl for a double ladder stand that we can use to go hunting together. I’d love to see her put her .243 to use and get a deer! I must add she bullseyed on the first shot 3 weeks ago at 100 yards. The next 3 shots were within a 1″ group(normal for a light barrel as they lose their accuracy as the barrel heats).
Motorcycle riding weather is sparse these days, so I’ve been spending more time working on other hobbies. I started back classes last week so Israel and I are both going to school and working(hence the reason things have been slow on here lately)
It turns out one of my Jack Russel Terriers has a small bump near the corner her right eye. I’ll be taking her Monday to get it assessed and hopefully it’ll turn out to benign. Scout is a valuable resource to our channel as well since we use her and my other Jack Russell Roo to hunt squirrels and small game. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to her. On the bright side, both of them turned 3 this month.
Here’s a little guy I found while working on the farm. (CLICK ON ANY OF OUR PICTURES TO SEE THEM BIGGER!!!)
Speaking of the approaching cold weather..here’s a good memory of a snowboarding trip I took in 2010 to Whitefish, Montana. Beautiful place! Cant wait till it’s time to break out the snowboard(and Skis for Israel).
And before I forget, this past year has been awful for insects in N.C. The mild winter last year left us with overpopulation in many insect species. Here’s a stinkbug which can be found all throughout the Hickory/Newton area. I saw about 25 or so in an hour last week while on a jobsite.
I thought this was a cool picture. This is a lizard carcass I found while emptying out a storage unit last week. It is hollow with the exception of it’s head.
Sunday we had our annual Suddreth family reunion at Tuttle State Park in Piney. Israel, Avery, and I went together and met my grandparents, dad, and sister there(as well as the rest of the Suddreth clan of course!). We had a great turn out and enjoyed the serenity of the outdoors on a cool, damp day. We hiked the trail and listened to all of the talking trees(very informative) and even managed to embarrass my little sister in front of her boyfriend
Here’s a spider Israel saw in the mens restroom sink.

Expect to see some squirrel hunting footage soon, yes we will be eating squirrel this winter. Call us backwoods or whatever you like but I swear nothing compares to a good wild game stew(squirrels/rabbits/doves/duck/deer).
We’ve got some footage from over the summer of us gigging fish. The footage is kind of boring as we didn’t successfully bag any fish on camera. I like it though, seeing underwater with the GoPro is AWESOME! Our gighead simply wouldn’t penetrate the tough scales of the fish, the video does show some good strikes though! Do you want us to post any of the footage in the next post? Comment and let us know!
Also, thanks for the views and support! We have enjoyed getting everything up and running thus far!
